Detroit Electric car charging its lead acid batteries, 1919.
The Anderson Electric Car Company produced electric cars under the name of The Detroit Electric Car Company from 1907-1939. The cars were marketed primarily to women who did not want to bother starting the engine via the hand crank, which was required with internal combustion engines of the time. These electric cars had a top speed of about 20MPH and a range of around 80 miles.
