The David Whitney House located at 4421 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
Whitney’s considerable wealth came from the lumber industry and he used his fortune to construct this expansive stone mansion. The home featured the first personal use elevator in the city of Detroit and in today’s economy would cost over $10 million dollars. Detroiters today know the building simply as The Whitney, one of midtown’s favorite restaurants.
