Tiger Stadium (then Navin Field), 1934 World Series
An extra set of bleachers in left field were temporarily built to accommodate more fans for the ‘34 Series.  The stands were built over Cherry St. and became permanent in 1938. Cherry St. was removed altogether as the stadium underwent a complete makeover and was renamed Briggs Stadium. 
The World Series in 1934 pitted the Detroit Tigers versus the St. Louis Cardinals’ “Gashouse Gang”.  The Tigers took command of the series and owned a 3-1 game lead, but lost the final two games of the series at home.
